Milk Bath photoshoot – How to

I have nursed collectively for 3 1/2 years. August is breastfeeding awareness month an I wanted to do something to celebrate the milestones I have achieved in nursing. I have been wanting to do a milk bath photo shoot F-O-R-E-V-E-R. I decided I was going to do one once I hit the 1 year  milestone of nursing my youngest.

My son was so excited to help me set up the photo shoot :)

He was so excited to help me set the flowers in place and pour the milk into the tub. Now for this shoot I filled the tub up to my liking and used 1 1/2 gallons of whole milk so I could get the color I desired. You could add more milk so that it would look more white or you could use less to get an opaque look. It depends on what you are going for.

I also used greenery to get a little texture into the shots but they ended up sinking so in the future I would probably use plastic greenery and spray them with scotch guard so they don’t sink. Using real flowers you are guaranteed that they will float. If you want to use plastic make sure to use scotch guard. Also a little tip. The mums(big yellow flowers) look amazing but when the kids get a hold of them and shred them, its a BEAST to clean lol.

I don’t have any natural light in my bathroom so I used three LED lights and a diffuser to simulate daytime. One pointed up at the ceiling, second one behind the diffuser and the third was behind me in the shower.

All in all I am so happy with the results I got from my photo shoot. I want to thank my husband for hearing my vision and executing it.

These last two photos mean so much to me. I may not be a size 4 but that belly homed FOUR babies and brought two earthside. I was blessed and able to nourish those two babies and watch them grow(still doing it with my daughter)

I hope these inspire you to do a milkbath shoot of your own, get one done(You could even hire Razmus Photography to do so)  or at the very least take more pics with your kids. they are only young once so capture these fleeting moments one picture at a time.

You GLOW Girl!!!

The other day I was scrolling through some comments on my youtube page and came across a comment that made me chuckle to myself. It was on a video I had made of just a lazy Sunday with my family and us cooking a meal. In that video my husband and I talked about one of our favorite mini doughnut places and it just so happen that in that week we visited three times. We had guest over and friends of our wanted to go there.

This comment said something to the fact that I shouldn’t eat the doughnuts and my husband is just worried about my size and I need to get healthy so I can have a long and happy life.

UMMMMMMM…..

I always laugh a little when I read these “concerns”

I have battled eating disorder after eating disorder and although my BMI may be high my health is GOOD. NO high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes etc. You know…all the health risk that people think automatically comes with being overweight.

I  let their comment roll of my back(since they hid behind a profile with no pic like a real concerned person lol) I decided to just go on about my day. When I first started youtube I would really let it get to me but now I was going to be my fabulous self no matter what. I came across this picture and I was immediately inspired.

YESSSSSSS I am so happy that they turned out just how I envisioned in my head. So ethereal, calming and it captured me. I think its so important for us to love ourselves no matter what size we are. Self care and self love is so important and is something I am excited about teaching my son and daughter.

So many times I see people hide behind a computer screen and project their insecurities on others. Do not let those keyboard warriors take about your joy. You are beautiful.

What are some ways that you practice Self care? Let me know down in the comments

Say Their Name

So I have to get something off my chest. It has really been hurting my heart. There have been numerous loss of life of POC(people of color) lately, I’m sure you have noticed. So much so that the hashtag #blacklivesmatter was created. (I am NOT going to get into a debate of why #alllivesmatter shouldn’t be the hashtag, if you want to know why that is problematic then please read one of the MANY article on the internet about it. you can start by reading this one here )

Many people don’t speak up when they see this kind of loss, maybe it’s because you feel uncomfortable and don’t know how to approach the situation. Some feel when you acknowledge the differences we have that it just keep racism alive. To the contrary, when you discuss these differences you open a dialog and it helps heal. It helps you gain knowledge that it is STILL happening and It helps you make necessary changes to make it not happen as often.

When you take a colorblind stance to things it doesn’t help. It’s obvious that my LOVE knows no color, I married a man who is of polish and irish decent aka WHITE however we BOTH know that racism exist and it would be horrible for us not to speak about it so that we know how we as a couple(and now a family of three) will deal with it.We can teach or son how he handles WHEN it comes up.

It seems like whenever a new hashtag of any POC shows up all of a sudden a new “story ” is thrown in the mix to pull attention away from the real issues, It’s like the news straight up say’s “I’m going to let you finish POC but…..( Just look at the Rachel Dolzel and Cecil the Lion story to name a few) both situations are horrible but the real discussion should be how disenfranchised groups of people can’t have basic human rights that many non POC enjoy. What rights you may ask? Have you ever been asked if you’re the Nanny of your child? Have you been followed around a store? Do you think “Oh I can’t go to that vacation spot because I may have to pass through a town that doesn’t like my skin color?” Have you even been told that the way you hair NATURALLY grows out of your head is UNPROFESSIONAL? These are just A FEW instances that I have had to deal with. There are many more that POC can write as well.

As a POC I wake up everyday and it’s pointed out to me that I am a black woman. I went to the mall and was going to purchase something for stress relief and the salesman pitch was something like we all have stress thanks to our jobs and the workplace. I stated that I don’t have a 9-5 that I am a SAHM and his response was “Why don’t you work? You have to take care of your kid right? UMMMM EXCUSE ME!!!! My husband has a GREAT paying job and that’s how I take care of my family. I am juts so tired of defending myself. “Wow ,you must be happy about your sons complexion?”, “You don’t like fried chicken?” “you sound so white?” “you like alternative music?”

The inflection at the end of the questions just sting every single time. It’s like they are surprised..why? All these Microagressions that I deal with are just tiring and this is just a glimpse of my life as a POC.

Going back to the headlines that take away your attention from the real issues. Lets talk about this Cecil the Lion business. I am VERY sad that it happened. Killing for sport is DISGUSTING!! But people are ALL up in arm about this. so much so that the practice of the dentist that killed the lion got SHUT DOWN.

These post I saw explains it better than I can:

You know I have days that are bad and I want to break down but my faith in the promised spiritual government that is brought out in Matthew 6:9,10 gives me hope and I have faith that will cure-all these problems we see and injustices.

I am a firm believer in the hope that the bible give. Jeremiah 10:23 says: “I well know, O Jehovah, that man’s way does not belong to him.It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step.” It’s because of that scripture that I know there is no way that racism and injustices will be eradicated completely without the help of Jehovah and his son Jesus.

If you don’t take anything away from this post, PLEASE just take this and think about it: I know that when you KNOW better you DO better. So we can all make an effort as individuals to really check the way that we treat people and how we speak and do things. I know that it’s hard, the sad thing is that white supremacy is so ingrained in the world that many people don’t realize it and it’s just seems normal. If you have privilege acknowledge it (MTV did a great documentary called White People. You can see it here) We may not have the power to change the thoughts and actions of everyone but we can try and change the way we think individually. How you ask, by discussing what is happening, by changing the way we view each other, by not using those microagressions, by saying the names of the victims that have been lost(Emmanuel Nine:Clementa Pinckney,Cynthia Hurd,Sharonda Coleman-Singleton,Tywanza Sanders,Ethel Lance,Susie Jackson,Depayne Middleton Doctor,Daniel Simmons and Myra Thompson. Sandra Bland, Tamir Rice, to name a few)and realizing that it could be someone close to you or even YOU. I’m tired of seeing people’s names as hashtags.

I don’t want this post to make you look at the world and see no good. There are good people. If you don’t believe in god or his heavenly government that is your personal choice. I however have faith that the promise told to us at Psalms 37:10,11 will come true and that is what helps give me strength to go on everyday.

“Just a little while longer, and the wicked will be no more; You will look at where they were,And they will not be there. But the meek will possess the earth,And they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.”

Be Yourself

I was perusing the internet today and somehow I always seem to stumble across crazy things. I stumbled across an article entitled :Women with natural hair have low self-esteem. Below is a paragraph from the article.

“According to the study by Bountiful Hair, natural hair being viewed as a messy look is causing many women, who wear their hair in that manner, to feel inadequate and less desirable as their counterparts. Those feelings of inadequacy causes women with natural hair to lash out at women with treated or straightened hair, and in turn lowers their self-esteem”

What now? I guess this “Study” questioned 3,000 natural women and 2,500 said that they didn’t feel pretty as a natural women.I weep for them.

What kind of study was this? and how controlled was is? I truly believe that you should do WHATEVER you want to YOUR hair that makes you happy. Who am I to try to tell you that being natural is the only way of life. What I will say is don’t think that just because you watch 1,000 YouTube tutorial that YOUR curls will look the same. Also not all products work for your hair type.

I think many women go into the natural route thinking that they can change their hair texture and turn it into something it’s not. As much as I would love to have Tracee ellis Ross hair

Tracee Ellis Ross

just look at that beautiful hair

I know that the texture that grows from my scalp is one of a kind. I have learned what works for my hair and what does not. I realize that I will never have the same style as someone else and that is ok. I am comfortable in my skin and being my own person.

To many people join the natural movement and think its easy. umm no! you have to set your hair two -three days before you may get it to look the way you want it to look( I love 2nd and 3rd day hair the best myself) you have to show your hair some TLC. When I say that I can’t do anything because I’m washing my hair I mean it! wash day is a spa day for my hair. I need to show her some love. natural-hair-wash-day

Being natural is not for every one. I repeat..NOT FOR EVERY ONE. I can’t stand people who tell you how you should do your hair, that is one of the reasons that in my hair videos I make sure to tell you these are MY thoughts and that this may not work for everyone. If you like to have your hair fried, dyed and laid to the side then rock it. There is no need for us as women to try to bring down another women just because she isn’t rocking the style WE feel SHE should.

We also need to be aware that only WE can allow someone to make us feel inferior or have low self-esteem. We have to make it our aim to love ourselves even if no one else does. We are our #1 fan. I will say this. You are beautiful no matter your size, hair color, color of your skin etc.  Don’t you forget that, just live your life and be yourself large
