I have always loved the color red for your hair. Its something about it that I just love. Red is the color or POWER and PASSION. When I am wearing a red lip you can’t tell me NOTHING!
When I saw this beauty on Divatress website I knew I had to get my hands on it. I am not going to lie, I was a little intimidated by the color when I first got it out of the box. I actually purchased it in October and I just wore it out This month (Jan 2018).
I customized the unit by cutting a bang into it and framing it around my face. This unit is semi-big head friendly(that’s why I have a bang) It is a lace front and synthetic hair. The curls are nice and has the volume I want when I wear a curly wig.
It has a comb in the back and you are able to adjust it to fit most head shapes. When it comes to coloring my hair, that is something I decided not to do. However, I LOVE bold colors and I am always looking for a way to wear them without damaging my hair. I encourage you to try a wig if you want to color your hair. Even if you just want to see what you look like in a particular color before you actually dye your own tresses.

Yesterday, SheaMoisture made a HUGE announcement.
They have been bought out by Unilever. Now, When this was announced I heard right away that they are sell outs and they aren’t here for the community that built them but honestly I feel like that is further from the truth. As a SheaBassador I had the privilege to get on a call with Mr. Dennis himself and ask him specific questions about this deal(something that all of the Sheabassadors had a privilege of doing.)
Right away I wanted to know if this was a partnership or a buyout. Unilever has bought out Sundial but Mr.Dennis is still the CEO of Shea moisture and holds creative control. He now has the ability to have more capital to put back into his community at a faster rate, as well as being able to make his brand a global brand. I asked him if there was a black-owned business that was bigger than his that he could have gone to in order to build his brand to be the global brand he dreams of. He stated “sadly there was not.” he also stated that is why he is “excited about the possibility of investing in more black entrepreneurs so that one day we will see a black-owned business with global reach.”
I personally am excited about this. All too many times we as minorities cry out that the business needs to stay black-owned. Look around your neighborhoods, even in predominantly minority ones, WHO OWNS MOST BUSINESS? WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING? It is usually not back into the community that business is in. With this buyout the COO who is overlooking the companies that have been bought out is a black woman, the money is also being put BACK into black communities. So how is this a bad thing?
One thing that Mr. Dennis kept stating over and over is that he is excited that they now have the economic freedom to put money in our communities that way we can have the SAME opportunities. If there are no funds then how will these opportunities happen?
I have seen a lot of black women talk about this company and how they aren’t the same etc and you have every right to not spend your coins where you don’t want too. However, look at this as an opportunity you have as black women(Or other WOC) to submit business proposals to a company that understands the struggle you may have when going to a bank to get a business loan. They now have the opportunity to help MORE women. So if you have a dream of owning your own business, start getting things together so you can submit a proposal and try to get it funded.
What other company has done this? who have set up a fund to help entrepreneurs. NO one else has done it on this scale. This is the LARGEST buyout for a black-owned business who made sure that their community is not left behind. When you are innovators and at the forefront of business, people may not understand and they may not support you. Business 101 is about growth, you can’t make money if you don’t grow and you cant invest in people or your business if you have no money.
So congrats ShaeMositure on your new endeavors. You’re not afraid to break down the walls and I can’t wait to see where the next 20 years takes you.
This past Sunday, my husband and I celebrated 12 years of marriage. We had so many reasons to celebrate this milestone. The last two years have been an emotional rollercoaster and with the help of Jehovah and each other we made it through to the other side. Happy and healthy I might add. My husband surprised me with a weekend getaway to Dinsey with the kids. We had a blast. Xander is now at the age where he is super excited and Kiera was happy looking at the parades and riding rides. So much fun.
After such a wonderful weekend I was not expecting anything else. Then a wonderful friend watched our two children so My husband and I could have a kid-free anniversary dinner(we haven’t had one of those for the last 4 anniversaries) We got to just laugh and talk about our highs and lows of the year. What goals we have as a couple and individuals for the next year of marriage. It truly was a weekend to remember and one I am so glad we were able to have.
If you like my hairstyle you can check out the tutorial for it here.
What have been some memorable weekends that you have had? Share them below in the comments.
A few weeks ago I saw a post shaming women who have 3a-3c curl patterns. I did agree with the statement that the natural hair movement seems to feature more women with that kind of texture. However, I will not sit here and downplay their blackness. I myself am a 4c curly and when I was starting my natural hair journey almost 6 years ago, I REALLY had to look for people with my hair type.
4c is so versatile there is so much we can do with our hair and our fros are BOMB DOT COM! you can’t tell me NOTHING when I am wearing my hair in a fro. I wanted to share some of my favorited type 4 hair naturals to follow on IG.
Hopefully you get some inspiration and you can see that there is so many styles that we can rock as well.
First up is ME. I have been rocking protective styles a lot this year and When I give my hair a break I usually wear wash n go or twistout. If you want to see how I achieve this definition on my 4c hair, check it out here.
Chary Jay is one of the FIRST people I watched on youtube. She was also from my home state MI (REPRESENT LOL) and when I got the chance to meet her in FL she was just as sweet in person as she is on film. She big chopped for the second time last year and her curls are ALWAYS poppin
Whitney, what can I say about Naptural85 that hasn’t already been said. She has so many hairstyles that you can check out not only on her IG but on her youtube channel as well.
next up is Jordan of Juciesandberries. her hair is just…there are no words. I am alwasy inspried when I look at her page.
Jenelle Is another Youtuber i followed early on in my natural hair journey. She rocks her 4 type curls in so many ways. She also doens’t leave the little ones out. Her daughter Elle is just too cute for words.
These are just a FEW of the beauties of IG you can search #4c curls and see a plethora of inspiration.
who are some one your favorite Type 4 curlies to follow on IG?
The other day I was scrolling through some comments on my youtube page and came across a comment that made me chuckle to myself. It was on a video I had made of just a lazy Sunday with my family and us cooking a meal. In that video my husband and I talked about one of our favorite mini doughnut places and it just so happen that in that week we visited three times. We had guest over and friends of our wanted to go there.
This comment said something to the fact that I shouldn’t eat the doughnuts and my husband is just worried about my size and I need to get healthy so I can have a long and happy life.
I always laugh a little when I read these “concerns”
I have battled eating disorder after eating disorder and although my BMI may be high my health is GOOD. NO high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes etc. You know…all the health risk that people think automatically comes with being overweight.
I let their comment roll of my back(since they hid behind a profile with no pic like a real concerned person lol) I decided to just go on about my day. When I first started youtube I would really let it get to me but now I was going to be my fabulous self no matter what. I came across this picture and I was immediately inspired.
Both my kids had taken a nap. I looked in my backyard and was like YEP I am going to photograph myself and show off my blackgirl magic. I am going to embrace all these curves, my natural hair and just WORK IT. Here are the results:
YESSSSSSS I am so happy that they turned out just how I envisioned in my head. So ethereal, calming and it captured me. I think its so important for us to love ourselves no matter what size we are. Self care and self love is so important and is something I am excited about teaching my son and daughter.
So many times I see people hide behind a computer screen and project their insecurities on others. Do not let those keyboard warriors take about your joy. You are beautiful.
What are some ways that you practice Self care? Let me know down in the comments
